  • Optisol O has a high specific weight, a low viscosity and is insoluble in water.Specific gravity of Optisol O is lesser than pure Perfluoro-n-Octane liquid. Due to its unique properties, ideal interfacial and surface tension, Optisol O does not penetrate beneath the retinal tissue.
  • Optisol O is chemically and physiologically inert, absolutely non-toxic, laser stable ophthalmic solution and insoluble in water. It also has a high specific weight and a low viscosity.
  • The properties of Optisol O make it highly suitable for photocoagulation and Cryotherapy.
  • Pure perfluorocarbon liquid like Optisol(Perfluoro-n-Octane liquid) is poorly soluble in silicone oils. There is a probability of residual pure perfluorocarbon liquid remaining undissolved in the eye after replacement with silicon oil. These remnants may lead to unwanted side effects in the eye. Perfluorohexyloctane present in Optisol O is very good solvent for silicone oil. Unlike pure perfluorocarbon, when used for retinal unfolding Optisol O achieves a very good transition from any residual droplets of unfolding liquid to silicone oil, during the subsequent injection of silicone oil tamponade.
