With Violet Light Filter-An optimal solution
for Retina protection
Optiflex Natural Yellow Aspheric Hydrophilic IOL contains a unique covalently
bound natural chromophore, which contains the
same UV-A blocking and Violet light Filtering chromophore that is in the
human crystalline lens. We use nature's own solutions to
the problem of protecting the retina from harmful energetic light.
The absorption spectrum of 3 Hydroxy Kynurenine (Figure 1) shows that this
natural compound is an excellent UV-A blocker with
a secondary purpose of filtering violet light. This compound and its beta
Glucoside derivatives are nature's primary protection for
UV -A and Violet light.
Raw material of our lens has a special monomer identical to the naturally
occurring chromophore and it is covalently incorporated it into our lens
material. The visible transmission spectrum of our natural yellow lens material
is shown below (Figure 2) compared to the transmission spectrum of a young
human crystalline lens as defined by Van De Kraats and Van Norren1.
Using nature's chromophore also provides natural protection while maintaining
high contrast sensitivity. Thus, Optiflex Natural Yellow Series provide
Violet light filtering similar to a young natural lens. |
